Meet Yeager Hayes Interiors

Katherine Yeager and Melissa Hayes, founders and designers at Yeager Hayes Interiors

Yeager Hayes Interiors began with a friendship, a shared creative vision, and a deep understanding of what makes a house feel truly complete. Katherine and Melissa met in 2022 after a mutual friend introduced Melissa as a potential designer for the custom remodeling firm where Katherine served as the in-house designer. After one lunch, it was clear that the introduction had brought together not only future colleagues, but also fast friends. Melissa joined the custom remodel team as a lead designer and quickly stepped into the fast-paced world of construction with energy, passion, and incredible talent.

As we worked alongside clients through custom renovations, we began to notice a missing piece in the construction process. Clients would often ask, “What fabric would you use for a roman shade?” “Can you help me source an area rug?” “What paint color would flow into the next room?” We were helping create beautiful spaces, but many still needed the final layers that make a home feel finished, personal, and lived in.

Where It All Began

From that idea, Yeager Hayes Interiors was born.

While continuing to support our full-time construction projects, we began building our interior design clientele during late nights, early mornings, and weekends. What started as a passion project quickly grew into something much bigger. We were blown away by the level of interest and trust we received in just two short years, and in 2026, we made the decision to turn Yeager Hayes Interiors into our full-time focus.

As mothers, we also understand firsthand that a home has to do more than look beautiful — it has to support real life. That perspective shapes the way we design: creating spaces that are thoughtful, functional, durable, and deeply personal, without ever sacrificing beauty. Today, Yeager Hayes Interiors brings together our construction background, love of thoughtful design, and belief that every home should feel both elevated and truly livable.

Katherine Yeager

Founder and Designer

After a decade in the nonprofit world, with a focus on large-scale fundraising events, business development, and community engagement, Katherine began to feel an ache for something new. In 2018, she and her husband purchased and fully renovated their first home — and from that moment on, she was hooked.

A mutual friend later introduced Katherine to a well-known local remodeler, and in 2019, she took a leap of faith into the construction and design world. As an in-house designer, she guided clients through every decision, big and small, gaining firsthand experience in the renovation process and developing a deep appreciation for the details that bring a home to life.

While Katherine loves the construction process, the interior finishes have always had her heart. She is drawn to the personal layers that transform a house into a home — bookshelves that tell the story of a family, fabrics that reflect the personalities of the people who live there, and details that make a space feel collected, meaningful, and truly lived in.

Katherine believes interior design is what she was meant to do, combining her love of people, projects, and creativity. She believes a home should be a reflection of the people who live in it and considers it the highest honor to create spaces where families will grow, gather, laugh, and share life together.

Katherine holds a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University. In her free time, she can be found with her husband, Logan, and chasing their three little ones — Libby, Emma, and Beau. Outside of her love for design, she enjoys Pilates, mahjong, Bravo TV, and spending time with friends.

Melissa Hayes

Founder and Designer

A North Carolina native, Melissa moved to Winston-Salem in 2018 and has always felt a natural connection to the world of construction and design. As the daughter and granddaughter of custom home builders, she spent much of her childhood on construction sites, imagining what unfinished spaces could become.

Before stepping into residential construction and interiors, Melissa curated personalized events and designs through her Raleigh-based business, bringing creativity, organization, and thoughtful detail to each project. She was also an active member and leader within the Junior League of Raleigh, serving in a variety of roles that strengthened her experience in collaboration, organization, and bringing a vision to life.

In 2022, Melissa joined a well-known local custom remodeling team as a lead designer, where she guided clients through selections and helped bring their visions to life — whether reimagining a lived-in space or designing something entirely new. Her background in construction, events, and client experience gives her a unique ability to balance beauty, function, and the many details that make a home feel complete.

At the heart of Melissa’s approach is a particular talent for space planning and seeing possibilities others may not immediately see. She begins by understanding how her clients truly live, then reimagines the layout and flow of a space to make the home work better for them. Rather than considering aesthetics and function separately, Melissa believes the most successful spaces are those where the two are inherently connected—where thoughtful planning enhances not only how a home looks, but how it feels and functions every day. She brings a calm, creative presence to the design process and loves helping clients see the full potential of their homes.

Melissa holds a bachelor’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill. When she is not designing, you can find her spending time with her husband, Chris, and their two boys, Lawson and Rives. She also loves traveling, exploring new hiking trails, and trying new cuisines.
